Wellington's mayor is in favour of ridding the cbd of vehicles and creating a pedestrian mall from Lambton Quay to Courtenay Place but not yet.

Though it sometimes might not seem so, living in cities is a pretty green thing to do. Two prime reasons being that average home sizes are smaller and transportation distances are generally shorter, both leading to lower levels of resource consumption and energy usage. But that doesn't mean that every city is a green oasis. Lots could use some sprucing up, even if all the basic amenities are taken care of. Here are some of the top programs I wish every city would do to make urban living even greener:

From an email forwarded by PNP: 

Long Gully Station has applied for a resource consent from WCC for a wind farm (http://www.wellington.govt.nz/news/publicnotices/details/long-gully.html).  As well as turbines on the ridge past the radar dome it also includes the construction of a transmission line down the tip track.  The documents do not note whether the tip track will be altered in any way.  Though the road beyond the radar dome will be upgraded to cater for construction traffic. 

If this is given the go ahead then the Tip track is a preferred access for construction...
