BikeNZ are proposing major changes to the structure of sports cycling in NZ that will affect all the cycling codes (road, track, BMX and MTB) and other activities such as school's cycling. A copy of their draft plan is attached as a PDF file. For those involved with sporting cycling, the proposed membership model is also now available and feedback on that is also invited.
NZTA Safer Cycling Programme
Since early 2011, the Cycling Advocates' Network (CAN) and Cycling New Zealand (formerly BikeNZ) have been working with the New Zealand Transport Agency on three projects, aimed at creating a safer environment for cycling.
Glen Koorey, Deputy Chair of CAN, and Kieran Turner, Chief Executive of BikeNZ, gave a presentation on cycling safety and promotion to the "Parliamentary Friends of Cycling" on the evening of Tue March 23rd.
This invitation was from Kevin Hague, Green Party MP, who has initiated the "Parliamentary Friends..." as a new cross-party group of MPs interested in cycling issues. Their first get-together was held in November and this was their second meeting, held during the dinner break while Parliament was sitting.
