Friday night 

A social dinner at our favourite local haunt. Meet the team behind CAN DO 2016.

Our location is Gengys at 7pm.  195 Victoria St, Hamilton

Saturday 19th March 2016 

Registration from 8:15am, for a 9:20am start. Finishing around 5:00pm.

Our location is Waikato Museum (1 Grantham Street, South end of Victoria Street, Hamilton).

We have 20 min speaking slots on a range of topics, including

  • A warm welcome from Paula Southgate our Chairperson of the Waikato Regional Council 
  • Learning about the progress on our lovely Te Awa trail
  • The grand reveal of the new look CAN branding
  • A point of view from our local Council on media and the city's new bike plan 
  • Megan Smith on her masters thesis: "Cycling on the Verge? Exploring the Place of Utility Cycling in Contemporary New Zealand Transport Policy"
  • Local CAN groups talking about their highlights for 2015
  • National wide NZTA update
  • Learning more about Cycling NZ's education role, and reason why cross dressing is important.

LUNCH

We are having a brown paper bag lunch picnic alongside our beautiful Waikato river by the Te Awa River Ride

DINNER

Dinner cost is included. Our dinner is classic hamilton backyard BBQ, there will be lots of time to miggle and chat.  Please note the address will be included in the attendees email which is going out early next week. 

EVENING PLANS

We might have organised our dates to be the same week/weekend as Balloons over Waikato event! Therefore, after dinner we are biking to the Night Glow located on Waikato Unversity campus. Please bring bike lights and a bike lock.

PROGRAMME

A special longer session on the new NZTA Speed Management Guidelines. Including hearing from our local NZTA bike supporters.

We again have 20 min speaking slots on a range of topics including:

  • Local CAN group updates 
  • Learning about Generation Zero success, it's all, ACTION with Generation Zero! 
  • Speed guidelines
  • Share the road campaign
  • Milk tanker blind spot workshop
  • and more topics to follow!

We have a light lunch, then CAN members will have their annual AGM in the afternooon 

Finally, there will be a short post-conference bicycle tour of South Waikato to show off the trails, mostly following the river south to Mangakino, and making use of the splendid camping facilities en route. Make sure you have a tent and pannier bags if you are keen to participate!
