• Successfully advocated for a doubling of the Wellington City Council cycling budget
• Ran stall at Moving Planet Day event
• Retained budget in WCC draft long term plan
• Submissions on: NZTA Basin Reserve plans, Regional and city long term plans, annual plans, Hutt Corridor Plan, Rimutaka Railway proposal, Government Policy Statement on Land Transport Funding, Pencarrow
• Marshalls for Love to Roll
• Represented at GWRC Active Transport Forum, WCC Sustainable and Active Transport Reference Group, Vulnerable Road User group
• Had positive coverage in the media about the increase of cycling
• Presented WCC with a report of the cycling community’s priorities – succeeded in getting the Island Bay to City route on the agenda.
• Advised WCC on bike signage around Evans Bay
• Ran the inaugural Roll on Wellington awards, and received positive media coverage.
• Obtained grant for cycle safety videos, narrated by Stephen Fry
• Created Cycle Aware Wellington facebook page, now with over 150 members
• Lobbied city councillors
• New display poster designed and printed
• 4 CAW delegates attended the 2Walk and Cycling conference in Hastings
• Organised and ran stall at Go By Bike Day February 1, 2012
For the year ahead:
• Campaign for more bike parking, in particular Wellington’s first bike corral
• Run a community event during the summer months
• Run the Roll on Wellington awards again in 2012
• Continue to advocate for an increased budget for cycling, and a dedicated resource within council
• Host Alex MacMillan to present her cycling phD research.
• Set up and administer a Twitter account
• Investigate running a Cyclovia event
• Better communication between council and CAW meetings.
