Councils are under pressure to keep rates under control. What can bike advocates ask for in their submissions that Councils can afford?
Here's some low-cost or no-cost ideas:
- lower speed limits
- reallocate road space to make room for bike lanes, Advance Stop Boxes
- cycle parking stands
- bike rental schemes such as NextBike
- cycle gaps through road closures
- wider kerbside lanes on multi-lane roads
- have a Council officer who looks over plans for all transport projects to make sure they make the most of opportunities to improve things for cycling (and don't make things worse for one mode while improving things for another)
