An 11-year-old boy has died after a mountain biking accident.
Police say he was riding with friends on a mountain bike track in Gisborne late yesterday afternoon when he lost control of the bike coming down a steep section of the track and went over a bank.
He was taken to hospital by St John Ambulance and died overnight.

Campion College student Leo Te Kira was riding on mountain bike trails with friends late yesterday afternoon when he lost control on a steep section of the track and went over a bank.
His friends called St John Ambulance and Leo was taken to Gisborne Hospital with serious injuries.
He died about two hours later.
Police are investigating the accident as a standard procedure and were at the reserve this morning, said Senior Sergeant Maui Aben.
"It is a tragic accident. How many kids go out mountain biking and ride around with their friends?" he said.
"It seems like a freak accident. It is really unfortunate, so many boys go out mountain biking every day."
Whataupoko Park, formerly known as Langford Fallon Reserve is near the end of Fox Street. It has mountain-biking, running and walking trails.
