seeking quotes from bikers: why I bike

From transport planners McCormick Rankin Cagney:
We are pulling together a report outlining the benefits of walking and cycling, and I was wondering if you could help me ask CAN members for some little sound byte quotations that we could put in.  We would like as much as we can get at short notice – basically before Monday 18th.

Things like:

"We have found that people will bike if the facilities are there, no matter the weather or the terrain”
Elizabeth Kiker, League of American Bicyclists

Pithy quotes from interviews eg ‘If you want to attract the best staff, put in bike stands and a shower.’

Or simply about why they cycle – because it’s cheaper, faster, more invigorating, etc.

Thanks for any help you can offer!

At peak hour, there is nothing faster than a bicycle!

I bike because it's just so convenient

As a librarian, I like:
"My two favorite things in life are libraries and bicycles. They both move people forward without wasting anything. The perfect day: riding a bike to the library. -Peter Golkin, museum spokesman (1966- )"

"It doesn't matter what time of the day it is, it still takes me the same time to bike there."
Glen Koorey, Christchurch

Barb Insull I love to ride my bike cos it makes me feel like a kid again and I can leave my car at home

I love sitting with my bike on the train-it makes me feel like I'm in Europe.

For me, it is a great way to keep my joints mobile, but is quicker (and lower impact) than walking. If I didn't stay active, I'd either be eating drugs (thanks, Pharmac) or needing mobility services (thanks, Regional Council).
Luckily, it's fun as well!

I like to hurtle down Ngauranga gorge when the rest of the traffic is crawling. :)

It is also a matter of convenience, health and environment. Not to mention it helped me save thousands of dollars and pay off my mortgage faster.

I feel at least 10 years younger than my age and happier than the car commuters.

"It's easy, fast, fun, social and fabulous! Best of all it's that evil satisfaction of passing all those motor vehicles which insist on crawling through town... The Urban Avenger strikes again!"

Anne FitzSimon, Nelson

"it's so simple and easy, a great way to travel"
Alex Revell, Wellington

Cycling is cool and stylish - Europeans have known that for a very long time!

A pretty lady on a bicycle turns heads.

And a gentleman on a bicycle says all the right things - strength, stamina, ethics!
