“Notes on a New Zealand City” (42mins) - Produced by the New Zealand National Film Unit in 1971 for the Ministry of Works this documentary questions the changes the motor car has brought to the way of life in Wellington and the surrounding suburbs; the challenges facing public transport, the pressure to build motorways and the economic and social implications of suburban growth.  Full of great footage of Wellington life in the 1970s, planners and economists speak of the tensions caused by the motorcar on the life styles of those who live in the Wellington area in a way that is an uncanny echo of the challenges we face today.
