Leadership (Advocacy)

  • Lobbying:

    • NZ Transport Agency dedicated Walking & Cycling Fund.

    • Getting There, NZ's first Walking & Cycling Strategy

    • Getting There National Advisory and Working Groups NZ Supplement to Austroads 14 - design guide for NZ cycle facilities.

  • Bike Wise - helped secure the future and increased funding.

    • NZ Road Code - Awareness of cycling included.

    • NZ Cycle Trails

    • Consideration of health benefits in the funding of cycling projects.

  • Submissions:

Legislation, strategies and policies changed to benefit cyclists.

  • Relationships with other sector groups e.g. Automobile Association

  • Supports Frocks on Bikes, Bike On Trust and other cycling initiatives

  • CAN national office- centre for communications, resourcing CAN & Local Groups with 2 part time staff.

  • NZ Cycling Conference series - major role in establishment and ongoing success.

  • Annual CAN Cycle-Friendly Awards - recognises business, NGO and government agency support for cycling.

  • CAN Do, the annual national summit for cycling advocates
