Nathaniel gave update on the draft cycle map for the Te Henui pathway.

Nathaniel reported on his efforts to market the 1.5 metre gap campaign he will launch next spring.

NPDC reported green lanes will be installed from July onwards at Northgate/Mangorei and Mangorei/Rimu intersections, as well as high risk Tukapa and Wallace St intersections.

NPDC reported construction for the bike lanes/shared pathways on Waiwhakaiho Bridge will commence sometime after July.

Nathaniel working with Devon Intermediate School and other schools in the area to progress treatment options for Devon St West.

Nathaniel reported there will be a new Kea Crossing being installed near West End School in Belt Road.  Aim is also to end parental traffic on Davies Lane.  He is thinking of publicising this via a neighbourhood block party and wants NTCA support.

3. Graeme still plans to make contact with NZTA in Wanganui to get update on when they will commence improvements agreed to as part of cycle strategy.

4. New business:

Agreed to post email to entire group regarding public meeting on Cityhop/carsharing on May 20th.  Event notice uploaded to CAN website.

Graeme agreed to notify Carl that Vivian Street between Brougham and Dawson and upper Coronation Street have been repaved without inserting cycle lane markings.

Discussion about possible ongoing NTCA projects - possible Sunday morning rides, art/essay contest in the schools to coincide with 1.5 metre gap campaign, meeting with MP Jonathan Young to help us get a timeline from NZTA.  Graeme will make contact with him regarding his availability.

 5.  Next Meeting - Wed June 3rd 5.20.  Venue to be announced.

One brief ammendment to note.
NPDC are working with NZTA on treatment options for Devon street West and the proposed underpass, Devon st West is a state highway and not a local road, as such it is the responsibility of the NZ Transport Agency. It has been the council position that an underpass is not the preferred treatment for this section of road. An underpass presents personal safety problems and antisocial behaviour particularly after dark to need locking and unlocking. It will do nothing to address the underlying problem of excess vehicle speeds. The NZTA plan for the corridor is still being completed at this juncture however an underpass has been suggested once more as NZTA preferred option. It is a lot of money and the question is whether it is the best use of this money. I'd like to see a solution that will slow motor vehicle speeds, remove car parking and aid walking and cycling through improved pathways for their safe and exclusive use. There are three schools in this stretch of highway it is an important bus and cycle route however it seems the movement of motor vehicles along this corridor remains the paramount consideration for any redesign.
