This is a letter I received which explains the purpose of the meeting. This is hugely significant to South Canterbury. Who is the most knowledgeable person to attend the South Canterbury workshop on behalf of Squeaky Wheel?
Dear Fiona
You are invited to attend a workshop for the development of the Central Canterbury portion of the Canterbury Regional Cycle Network.
The planning of a regional network of cycle routes to link districts and provide connections with surrounding regions was identified as a major project in the Canterbury Regional Land Transport Strategy 2002-2007. A number of projects have since been undertaken to continue developing this network.
In 2008, Environment Canterbury contracted ViaStrada Ltd to assist the Regional Land Transport team with the development of a regional cycle planning map within the framework of the Cycling in Canterbury Strategy. ViaStrada has added to the work completed in 2005 and developed a discussion document which will be sent to workshop attendees prior to the workshop. The discussion document outlines the proposed regional cycle network, along with the methodology used to identify it.
The next step of the project is to present the proposed network to a series of stakeholder workshops (in north, central and south Canterbury) to refine the methodology and finalise the network by supplementing the desktop findings with local knowledge. Subsequent workshops in north and south Canterbury will be planned once the first workshop for Central Canterbury has been held. Details of the Central Canterbury workshop are:Venue: Environment Canterbury, Date: Friday, 20th March 2009, Time: 9.00am - 12.30pm (lunch provided)
