Sept 7, 2011

Chair: Alan

Notetaker: Stuart

Present: Gaye, Stuart, Alan, Nathaniel

Apologies: Graeme

1. Henwood Road - residents on Henwood Rd have been advocating to NPDC to reduce speed limit.

Action: Nathaniel will try to find contact details and relay to Alan.

Action: Alan will try to contact Henwood Rd residents to explore how NTCA can support them.

2. Sept 24th Moving Planet Day - picnic and stalls from 12:00 to 1:00 on grassy area adjacent to windwand.

Action: Stuart to contact Katie about sending notice to entire email group.

3. Discussed draft Bikepedia (guide to cycling in New Plymouth). Agreed there needs to be a link to site where glass can be reported to NPDC. Also clarification of which phone numbers to contact police for crashes (urgent and non-urgent). Also suggested there needs to be some mention of Stratford cycling scene.

4. Sept 22nd World Car Free Day - businesses are signing up for a car-free challenged. Posters are designed so they can be modified with a white strip if a business decides to offer a free breakfast. Several schools already planning this. Van Dyke's has pancakes you can warm in the microwave.

Action: Nathaniel will email Alan the contact form to contact Van Dyke's

5. Sept 30th NPDC fix-your-flat day for NPDC employees.

6. Bike/Truck workshop - Tom Cloke of Road Transport Association is fully supportive, but no date has been set yet. Suggested friendly discussion as part of the workshop of trucks sticking to roads with shoulders (to improve cycle safety).

7. Nominations are being invited for cycle friendly awards in 3 categories  - cycle friendly project, cycle friendly business and cycle friendly champion (a person). Agreed that NTCA should nominate the Waitara fix-up as a cycle friendly project.

Action: Stuart will ask Graeme to nominate the Waitara fix-up on behalf of NTCA.

8. Planning a ride - two possibilities are looking at NPDC infrastructure projects (e.g. Bell Block extension) and redoing the street audit we did for the NPDC cycling strategy 3 years ago.

Action: Nathaniel will try to locate the audit and send it to Alan.

9. Article for Chainlinks

Action: Nathaniel will leave hard copy of Chainlinks at NPDC reception for Gaye to pick up.

Action: Gaye will do article on her Taumaranui ride and post it to Graeme.

Action: Alan will notify NPDC again that this is still a hazard.

11. Discussed legislative proposal for Hi Viz clothing to be mandatory for cyclists.

Action: Alan we email CAN about getting Hi Viz merchandise on approval.

Comments

NPDC inform that they have a programme to replace the wooden deck section on the Fitzroy side of this brdige, and this should eliminate the small step that has developed between the track and the bridge. Appears a number of accidents have occured due to the slippery nature of the wood deck.
