1. Remaining events for Wild West Bike Fest (Nathaniel)
- Mar 4 at 8 pm - Bike Night at Arthouse Cinema - $5 off if you get there by bike. Film records the history of the bike from birth to destruction. Preceded by fun ride at 7:30 from Puke Ariki Landing.
- Mar 6 104 pm Trolley Derby starting from Combined Culture Trust on Cook Street.
- All films at Arthouse Cinema to be $5 if you get there by bike (until their budget runs out)
2. Debrief of earlier Wild West Bike Fest events (Nathaniel)
- Combined Mayoral Challenge and Methenex Family Fund Ride - 1,000 people participated (200 more than last year). Also more than Round-the-Mountain ride. This year $2 registration fee charged to go to the kids ward at the hospital.
- Waitara bike fix-up - totally different atmosphere than in New Plymouth, much more of a festival. Parents all pitched in to help fix flats, etc. and were very appreciative of the help.
- Bicycle Street Party (Feb 25th) on Currie Street - 250 people participate with 40+ people participating in street racing. To reduce safety issues, next year will be important to close the street earlier, have a hour kids event before the race and have race route locked down to ensure nothing else is happening on the street. Also bikes that race need to be safety checked and there needs to be cap on the number of racers. This was intended as an event for teenagers, but a lot of families showed up with younger kids. High jump bunny hop with BMX bikes was especially popular.
3. Report from last CSIT meeting (Nathaniel/Graeme)
- Green paint on cycle lanes is to be upgraded to a grit silica that last two years. After 2 years it's anticipated that all cycle lane exits/entries and stop boxes will be green.
- Rural signs - Kylie from the roading team will enquire what budget is available and how many signs can be put up.
- These will be the same magenta share the road signs that were used on the busses.
4. Cycle safety issues
- Rowan reports that the cycle lane is routed onto the sidewalk at the new Tukapa/Waimea roundabout and NTCA members encouraged to check it out.
- Gaye reported there is still no signage designated the cycle lane where the highway passes the golf course headed to Bell Block.
5. Truckie/cyclist and bus driver/cyclist workshops - will be 1/2 day during the week with food provided. Discussed recruiting cyclists once Patrick sets a day. Agreed to invite Frocks on Bikes to next NTCA meeting so they can help us spread the ward. Marion suggests we invite Craig Campbell Smart to these worshops because he's a cyclist. Also agree to invite police who are cyclists. Stuart will contact Grant Coward and Graeme will contact Tony Brownrigg.
6. Current balance in TSB account, $329.80.
7. Next meeting Wed April 6th at the STOS cafeteria on Devon Street.
