1. Update on intersection layout
- Molesworth/Llardet - cyclists riding straight on at risk from cars turning left. Nathaniel has passed this info onto the roading team. Graeme will contact Max Aves to ask the priority level of fixing this.
- Tukapa/Waimea roundabout - school children and novice cyclists have to cross traffic turning left on Waimea to reach the ramps that leads them up onto the footpath. This could be remedied by placing the ramp east of the roundabout but would still leave children the hazard of crossing heavy traffic turning onto Waimea. This would be a particular issue for children cycling to Francis Douglas and Marfell. Nathaniel will talk to roading team about meeting with us at the roundabout as part of the post-safety audit.
- Spotswood Countdown - Nathaniel has a cluster meeting with Spotswood primary school and several small business owners across from the school about the impact of the new Countdown on traffic flow. Nelle interested in attending the meeting as a Spotswood resident.
2. Sept 24th 350.org Moving Planet Day
Planning meeting set for Tues July 26th at 5:30 at Hive for Sept 24th. Nelle will invite Taranaki Climate Justice and we agreed to as Katie send invite for the Planning Meeting to entire email group. Stuart will draft the email and insert and invite regarding an electric bike workshop Hive is planning. Nathaniel reported that he will ask local employers to come up with activities for Car Free Day (Sept 22) and approach Govett Brewster (who organised it last year) to organise an event for PARKing Day (Sept 16).
3. Aug 13/14 - launch of cyclways expansion project (via rural backroads) in New Plymouth
Nathaniel reports riders with be leaving Tamauranui on the 13th and the plan is for local cyclists to meet them at the Mangati Walkway in Bell Block. We would pick up riders from schools along the way and arrive at Puke Ariki at time to meet John Key when he arrives by helicopter. There's a need for marshalls to help direct traffic through Bell Block residential streets.
4. Wild West Bike Fest 2012 planning
Meeting to plan Wild West Bike Fest - Tues July 12th 4 pm at NPDC.
5. Report from CAN
NZTA will be putting out Bike Wise week for tender (Expressions of Interest closes at end of the month). Vendor who winds the bid will have right to reapply for further three years. The Ministry of Health has contributed $300,000 (1/3 of the budget) in the past but will not be for 2012. NTCA feedback is to continue the Bike to Work breakfast, which is a great opportunity to sign up new NTCA members, as well as bike fix-ups. We also support having beginning and advanced bike maintenance workshops.
6. Rural signs warning a cycle training route
Agreed rural signs warning motorists of cyclists should be bright green.
7. Lets Go update
Nathaniel reported that upgrades of the Huatoki and Mangaatuku walkway have been put out to tender.
