MINUTES

Chair: Graeme

Notetaker: Stuart

Present: Nathaniel, Nigel, Stuart, Graeme, Stuart, Joelle

1. Discussed consultation with NZTA

Decision: to make written submission to NZTA

Action: Graeme will draft language and send to email group for comment, as well as encouraging them to use the language for their own submission.

Submission will emphasise that cyclists who commute want to remain on Northgate rather than detouring to the coastal walkway and the pinch point (with the new design) under the Paynters Ave bridge makes it impossible to do this safely.

2. Agreed to explore having a quarterly active transport forum - possibly on the effect of the price of petrol on active transport or on the response of business to Brougham Street upgrade (possibly with input from Tom Cloke from the Chamber of Commerce

Action: Graeme will try to get sample agenda from another city.

3. Let's Go update (Nathaniel) - project currently working on plans for SH 45 exit to Oakura. Also looking at revamping South Road after Ngamotu itneresection. There would be no parking allowed on the seaward side opposite Spotswood High School. Concerns about effect on dental clinic and Te Wananga. There will also be an official crossing point created for supermarket. 40K speed restriction zones being explored for residential streets.

4. CAN report (Graeme) - CAN is halfway through a 3 year project for the Road Safety Trust. Notes that AA has been teaching drivers about courtesy to cyclists. CAN has participated in a number of forums related to cyclist who got killed in Taupo.

5. Frocks on Bikes Woolies Ride on Sun 7 July at 2 pm starting from Eastend Surf Club

6. Cycle Skills TRaining (Joelle) - next month there will be 2 scooter skills training courses. Also police and Let's Go will be doing a joint cycle skills training at Waitoriki School. Woodleigh School will be having week-long cycle training.
