Happenings on the West Coast

I see in the latest Ground Effect newsletter ("Underground", February) that things are moving along with regards to using the old Hokitika-Ross railway line which has been disused for over 30 years.

I see in the latest Ground Effect newsletter ("Underground", February) that things are moving along with regards to using the old Hokitika-Ross railway line which has been disused for over 30 years.  The Hokitika Mtb Club & the Westland District Council are working on the stretch from Ruatapu to Ross which is overgrown with gorse.

"Reinforcements from the Department of Corrections have been called in to help.  Ground Effect has contributed $1000 towards equipment hire and signage.  Sport West Coast is planning an opening event for both walkers and mountain bikers once the rack is cleared and the old railway bridges have been replaced over the summer."

This will be an excellent asset with great scenery and giving cyclists an alternative to the state highway...an exciting development.
