Bikes on Trains

Bikes on Trains

Forums:

What is being done to advocate for the ability to take bikes on trains during peak hours?

The suggestion that the policy will be changed to restrict bikes being taken on trains is ridiculous.

The Regional Council have a goal to have at least 15% of region wide journey to work trips using active modes of transport.

Using cycles helps reduce traffic congestion & reduce greenhouse gas emiisions as well as reducing the need for other transport infrastructure.

By restricting bike access on trains during peak times it will likely result in increased traffic & the need for more infrastucture.  My bicycle has cleat pedals - therefore requiring cycle shoes.  It is not practical for me to walk from Wgtn train station to work in these shoes.  Furthermore Porirua simply does not provide sufficient safe parking for cycles.  Riding from Titahi Bay to Wgtn & back every day is not practical - so my options for getting to & from work become increasingly restricted.

It surprises me that there seems to be little public discussion about this propsoed policy change.  I only found out the details when speaking with staff completing a survey of bike users at Wgtn station earlier this week.
