e.CAN Editor

CAN's electronic news bulletin, e.CAN, is distributed every 3-4 weeks to members and to non-members (including people in local and national government). It contains useful, interesting and amusing news items, media releases, weblinks etc.

The e.CAN Editor is appointed by the Executive. It is not essential for the postholder to also be on the Executive.

Role:
  • to produce the e.CAN e-mail newsletter

Duties:
  • collate suitable e.CAN material from various sources (including Executive members, CAN staff, CAN members, general public, Internet news alerts, other e-mail newsletters, magazines, newsgroups)
  • edit and prioritise material as needed
  • decide when the newsletter is ready to send out (no set schedule, but generally about every 3-4 weeks when sufficient material has been gathered, or when some material is time-sensitive (e.g. contains deadlines))
  • circulate draft to the e.CAN editorial board for checking and comment
  • send final version to Secretary for distribution to CAN membership and Friends groups
  • produce HTML version for posting on the CAN website

Desired qualities/experience:
  • some knowledge of CAN's purpose and activities
  • editorial skills
  • Internet access
  • computer literacy including text editing, Internet skills
  • some knowledge of HTML an advantage

  • CAN Executive

Support/working relationships:
  • the Executive can provide help and advice

Time commitment:
  • approximately 1 hour per week
