Deputy Chairperson

The Deputy Chairperson provides support to the Chairperson. The postholder would normally also undertake other specific roles. The position is filled from within the Committee (formerly known as the Executive) following the AGM.The distribution of duties between the Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson roles can be changed to suit the postholders.

Role:


Duties:

  • participate as a member of the Committee
  • deputise for the Chairperson in Committee meetings and General meetings as needed
  • in the absence of the Chairperson, take primary responsibility for the CAN Project Manager(s) and indirectly other CAN staff
  • participate as a member of the Staffing Sub-Committee in the duties associated with being an employer
  • deputise for the Chairperson (or act as an alternate) as a spokesperson for CAN as needed
  • undertake other things as delegated by the Chairperson or requested by the Committee, staff or membership (this could be a mix of primary responsibility for certain things and deputising as appropriate)


Desired qualities/experience:

  • knowledge of or willingness to learn about CAN's objectives and activities, and about key issues and people in the sector
  • ability to motivate and organise self and others
  • ability to work within deadlines and budgets

  • mentoring and some training (e.g. governance) will be provided


Time commitment:

  • varies during the year, but averages 3-4 hours/week
