ChainLinks Contributions Manager

ChainLinks is CAN's quarterly magazine. As well as being an important benefit of paid membership, the magazine is an important way for CAN to inform readers, allow members to share experiences, and to define its public image.

This role description is to be read in conjunction with the ChainLinks Contributions Manager Guidelines (separate document) and the ChainLinks Editorial Policy and Advertising Policy (see www.can.org.nz/chainlinks for details).

The ChainLinks Contributions Manager is appointed by the Executive. It is not essential for the postholder to also be on the Executive.

Role:
  • to ensure sufficient and suitable content for the quarterly ChainLinks magazine is supplied to the Editor

Duties:
  • together with the Editor maintain an annual timetable for production of ChainLinks (including contributions and other deadlines)
  • maintain a spreadsheet or database of contributors and their contact details
  • develop and maintain a set of regular features in ChainLinks (in consultation with the Editor)
  • solicit contributions, including editorials (where requested by the Editor) and paid advertising (in association with the Networking Project Manager), from a wide variety of sources
  • ensure contributions are received in an appropriate format and by deadlines
  • proofread contributions, make corrections and liaise with contributors as appropriate
  • forward appropriate material (i.e. in keeping with editorial & advertising policy, not past its 'used by' date) on to the Editor

Desired qualities/experience:
  • good at working to deadlines
  • good computer skills
  • good written language skills (including proofreading)
  • CAN member

Accountabilities:
  • ChainLinks Editor

Support/working relationships:
  • ChainLinks Editor
  • Networking Project Manager and other CAN Staff
  • Editorial Board
  • other members of CAN Executive
  • contributors, including members, local groups and advertisers

Rewards:
  • $500 honorarium per year
