5.30pm-7.15pm

Present: Ron, Max, Liz, Fiona

Apologies: Wally, Jon

Bike Parking outside TDC

Its going to happen! Jannie (Mayor) said "why not?" after SW oral submission presentation at LTCCP.

Jon to contact TDC about the time
line and detail about the design and position of the bike stands. Need to ensure it is best practice. Question is it better on the area by the door? Bikeparking outside library too!

LTCCP and RLTP

highlights and challenges

Report back from Liz including a powerpoint presentation she did

Learnings for next time:

  • Send a copy of submission to TDC staff that SW interacts with (e.g. Simon, Daniel, Bill).  Still can do this now (Jon?).  (as well as who the official person is to receive the submission). Simon was interested in seeing this.
  • Invite TDC Staff  to oral presentations.
  • Conversational approach, e.g. what Council has done well, what are some of the problems, be interactive.  One message/idea? Not too technical (that detail is in written submission)
  • Same questions get asked every time so be prepared e.g. Councillor John Bradley how keep safe, do safety courses etc, e.g. Terry Kennedy this is cycle friendly but what about the other transport modes (to the later question Liz answered we are a cycling user group and that the Reference group to be set up to help review the TDC Active Transport Strategy will engage all with potential interest)

Jon what do you think about learnings from the process? Can you scribe your thoughts here please :)

Overview of submissions in Timaru Herald mentioned SW.

Transition Towns

Has come to Timaru, Geraldine, Temuka

This is about how the world will be after Peak Oil.

Building resiliance in towns when oil runs out. Builds on current initiatives (e.g. SW, Farmers Markets-be great to have this in Timaru (Max).  Local level action.

Steve Ernshaw (Timaru, orthopedic surgeon), Kate Elson, Dave Musgroveinvolved

Minor Maintenance Programme
(see attached for the info about this).  TDC has $2, 571,000 (over 3 years) in the budget (yes that figure is correct).

Plan: Talk with Simon at next meeting about this.

Liz suggested perhaps April May is better time, as this is when have to spend budgets?

All to consider projects for it. SW 2007-2008 Annual Plan submission has some ideas as does the TDC Active Transport Strategy.

Washdyke route- Hilton Highway was considered a prime candidate by those at the meeting.

Fiona to get e.g.s of what other Councils have spent on. List from TDC of what last three years was spent on. So we can get greater understanding of potential projects.

Invite TDC to next SW meeting

Simon Davenport is keen to attend

Send TDC  an invite for Tuesday August 4

Get big attendanceto show support for cycling.

New School Travel Planner to be invited .

NZTA (Highways and Network Operations, HNO, ex Transit)

Ron to draft a reply.

SW will set up a meeting to discuss the various issues including Hilton Highway, perhaps (as NZTA suggested) in conjunction with TDC Council Staff meeting.

SW never recieved the hard copy sent (where was it sent? Ron to find out)

SW only got letter from email forwarded to Fiona from NZTA.

See article about Colin Hey and NZTA on SW website for more info about history of letter.  SW letter (July 08) and NZTA response (June 09 ) attached to that article too
