New cyclists encouraged to get their ‘trainer wheels’ on

Beginner cyclists are encourage to join the BNZ TrainerWheels Programme to assist them in their first attempt at the Wattyl Lake TaupoCycle Challenge, which will be held on November 28.

The BNZ-sponsored programme is aimed at providing supportand encouragement to beginner cyclists who may be interested in participatingin one of the events which form the Cycle Challenge, New Zealand’s largestcycling event

Glenn Patrick, BNZ Chief Operating Officer – Retail says,“We are very excited to be a part of this event. The BNZ Trainer WheelsProgramme encourages people who wouldn’t normally ride to have a go and set agoal to participate in the Cycle Challenge.”

BNZ Trainer Wheels is aimed at those wanting toparticipate in a first time attempt of the iconic Lake Taupo event either as aLinfox relay rider tackling 40kms or an individual in the 160km BNZ SoloChallenge.

Keith Crate, Event Director of Cycle Challenge says, “Youdon’t need any special equipment to participate in our event – just a helmet,safe bike and the determination to finish.”

“Understandably, new entrants have lots of questions andwe want to provide as much support as possible,” Crate says.

All BNZ Trainer Wheel riders will receive a specialRiders Pack which will include a high-visibility vest, basic hints on buying abike, riding techniques, clothing, nutrition, safe riding, a training programmefor beginners, and some fun items to keep them motivated and in training. 

The free BNZ Trainer Wheels training camps will be heldin Taupo on September 12 to 13 and October 10 to 11.

Participants will gain valuable experience on Taupo roadsand plenty of free training information The Cycle Challenge organisers willalso be sending informative and motivational emails in the build up to November28.

“We want everyone to discover cycling and how fun it canbe – our previous participants have ranged in age from 8 to 80 with a varietyof backgrounds and fitness levels,” Crate says.

Previous participants of the Wattyl Lake Taupo CycleChallenge are invited to introduce a friend to Cycle Challenge  and be inwith a chance to win a fantastic prize.
