We should discuss CAW involvement with this at 1 Dec CAW meeting
Hi,
My name is Tania; I am event coordinator for the 2nd annual community Mt
Victoria Inner City Festival in Wellington. If I could ask for a couple of
minutes of your time in relation to this festival I’d be grateful.
I would like to invite CAW to be involved in next year's festival. I am
approaching various other groups in Wellington that have a love for
protecting our environment and making our world more sustainable, but
welcome you to suggest others who might be worthwhile approaching.
It’s an eco-focused festival is planned for Saturday 27 February 2010:
10am – 3pm, and has a theme of sustainability and green living. Ideas
for how CAW could be involved include;
* Helping to running a workshop on bike skills etc
* Listing the festival on your site – promoting people to cycle along
and check it out
* Organizing a cycle session around the waterfront to end at the festival
(on Roxburgh St, Mt Vic – just off Kent Tce)
*Other creative suggestions welcome!
Here’s some information about the festival;
Our first festival was held this year on Saturday 28th The festival is
being organized by the New Crossways Community Trust, who manage the New
Crossways Community Centre on Roxburgh Street Mt Victoria following the
sale of the “old” Crossways late 2008.
The theme of the festival is sustainability and green living and we aim
to;
* highlight the importance of sustainability and climate change, and
encourage the public to learn more about ways to embrace this through
workshops, art installations, stalls with a sustainability message and
ensuring all aspects of the festival support this
* support and celebrate the community and its diversity through the arts,
community support groups, culture and learning
* raise money and awareness for New Crossways
The festival will offer opportunities to stallholders, community interest
& support groups, art using recycled materials, creating ‘green
spaces’ for people to relax in, artists, music, workshops (i.e.
composting, worm farms, growing vegetables on your balcony; biking
skills), and activities for kids/adults alike with a carnival atmosphere.
Recycling stations and education will be provided and guest speakers are
being sought to ‘perform’ in our speakers corner on issues and topics
around sustainability and climate change.
The festival will take place in Mt Victoria – close to the CBD and
encourage visitors to walk, cycle or ride the bus and they will all be
encouraged to ‘get involved’ in the activities provided as well as to
just enjoy the atmosphere. The new Crossways Community facility is based
upstairs at 6 Roxburgh street, and this is where the festival headquarters
will be, as well as community stalls, workshops and exhibitions with more
stalls, activities and entertainment happening out on the street.
We hope people will take away a strong message about the importance of
sustainability in our lives and communities, and valuable learning’s
from the festival.
I would be more than happy to meet in person to chat about options further
if you are interested. More information can be found at
www.mtvictoria.org.nz.
Thanks for your time, I look forward to your thoughts
