"Bike On NZ" Hastings Commuter Cycle Challenge
Feb/March 2010
Tukituki MP for the National Party, Craig Foss and Bike Hawke’s Bay Cycling Development Officer Vicki Butterworth want to get more Hawke’s Bay people using bikes to ride to work. The challenge has been set!
• BREAKFAST! On your way to work cycle to the Business of the Day to pick up your breakfast and register with Vicki for the daily prize. The “Business of the Day” will supply breakfast on their chosen day from 7am -8.30am. This is not a cooked breakfast! It will be something easy for a cyclist to either eat standing or be able to put in their backpack. Cyclists will be able to meet other like minded people to learn more about the benefits of cycling to work. You will be notified of winners by email and on Classic Hits each day.
• WHEN? Every working day, Monday to Friday, from Monday 22nd February to Friday 5th March you are challenged to ride your bike to work. We understand every day may not be practical but each day you do you are in with a chance to win. If you ride for 5 or more days over this period you go in the draw for the Grand prize!
• WHY? Because cycling to work has many benefits to you and your employees. It gets you active and invigorated before they start work. It helps keep you healthy and helps with reducing traffic congestion. Cycling reduces carbon emissions, reduces petrol bills, you could save up to $40 a week and it saves on your parking spaces at work.
• THE PRIZES? Each day there will be a ‘spot prize’ drawn, donated by the “Business of the Day”. If you cycle for 5 or more of the ten working days you will go in the draw for the Grand prize – a trip for two flying Air New Zealand to ride the Otago Rail Trail – this will be drawn at the final breakfast on Friday March 5th
• NO EXCUSES! In association with Avanti Plus and The Hub Cycle Centre we will offer free ‘WOF’ testing for bikes for your commuters. BikeHB also has available 1x male and 1x female bike from the Recycling Project for your employees to use should they wish to partake but do not currently have a bike. This is a limited offer so get in quick!
