Abstract:

The Bay of Plenty Regional Transport Strategy (2007) has sustainability as a strategic outcome, specifically 'real efforts need to be made to manage travel and travel demands, optimise existing networks and improve alternative modes" including implementing local pedestrian and cycling strategies. This report outlines the national context for walking and cycling, local Whakatane data; goals and policy of the strategy targets; the means of goal achievement (developing infrastructure, education, funding); monitoring and implementation of the strategy.
