Abstract:

"Introduction:

This report aims to proved an overview of selected international walking and cycling strategies to inform the Ministry of Transport's development of a strategy framework. 

Strategies were selected in consultation with key walking and cycling stakeholders, international contacts and through a comprehensive internet search of government web sites and walking and cycling organisation web sites. 

This section provides some context for the review by discussin walking and cycling organisations, explaining that the focus is on reviewing national strategies, and also provides a brief overview of regional and local walking and cycling plans already established in New Zealand.

Key themes revealed by reviewing the strategies and policies are discussed in section two and three. A summary of selected strategies or policies reviewed is included in Appendix One. A list of major strategies and policies mentioned withing this report is included in Appendix two."
