What is Rotorua Cycle Action?

Welcome to Rotorua Cycle Action! We are a group that has formed to help create a safe environment for cyclists in Rotorua, and to promote the idea of riding bicycles to as many people as possible. Bicycles are a very important part of a sustainable future for Rotorua. Bicycles are non-polluting, efficient, healthy, fun and inexpensive machines unaffected by the escalating price of fuel. On the other hand, bicycles need a safe place on the road and the cooperation of other road users, which means we need to advocate! Join RCA now to add your voice to our call for a better environment for cycling in Rotorua. You can join RCA by going to [http://www.riderotorua.com/adv_subscribe.php].

Rotorua Cycle Action (RCA) was formed in February 2008 when Simon Kennett and Anne Gummer from the New Zealand Cycle Advocates Network (CAN) gave a presentation in Rotorua to a large group of people with interests in cycling.

People from a broad range of cycling interests have come together in this group to promote safe cycling in the Rotorua district. The first RCA meeting was chaired by Anne, and a leadership committee was created to focus the group's efforts and aspirations. RCA now meets regularly to discuss cycling issues, to organise lobbying activities and to develop initiatives that promote and enhance cycling in Rotorua.

RideRotorua.com has donated a signup web page to RCA so that interested people can join the group. RCA membership is free! The initial focus of the group is to advertise the group and grow our membership. Having a significant number of concerned cyclists on our membership roster will add power to our ongoing efforts to lobby council and government on cycling related issues. If you want Rotorua to be a safe environment for bicycles, the first step is to join RCA!

The goals of Rotorua Cycle Action are to get people on their bicycles and to make the city safer for cycling. Rotorua is a popular cycling destination; however locals and visitors alike often travel though town with their bikes attached to cars. There is a common perception that the streets of Rotorua are not safe for bicycles. To shift this perception, work must be done: both in improving the city's bike-friendliness and in inspiring people to get on their bikes. RCA is ready to do what it takes to increase bike traffic in and around Rotorua! Please join us!
