4 SEP 2013 - A national conference boosting the profile of cycling and walking is on its way to Nelson.

The 2014 "2WALKandCYCLE" national conference, organised by the Cycling Advocates Network (CAN) and Living Streets Aotearoa, will be held in Nelson from October 29-31 next year.

Nelson Tasman Tourism, the Nelson branch of the 2WALKandCYCLE committee and the Nelson City Council worked together to put a submission to the conference organising committee. Nelson won the hosting rights from Dunedin and Palmerston North.

Transport engineer and conference organising committee member Peter Kortegast said the three-day conference was timed to fall after the 2014 Nelson Arts Festival.

The conference aimed to raise the profile of cycling and walking in New Zealand, he said. "It's a perfect opportunity to get together and share ideas, present papers and get educated," he said.

20 November 2013
12:00pm to 1:00pm

I am pleased to announce that after watching Kelly Brough, President and CEO of the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce give a dynamic keynote at the recent Association of Pedestrian and Bicycle Professionals (APBP) Professional Development Seminar, she has agreed to do a 20 November Noon Webinar just for a Kiwi audience.

I don't need to tell you that when talking about moving forward with a positive cycling agenda how important it is to have a range of community and business leaders not just on board, but partners in the journey. Helping NZ Chambers of Commerce to understand why cycling is good for business is part of that process. That is why Spokes Dunedin and the University of Otago School of Business Department of Marketing are partnering to make this happen. There is no registration cost for this webinar and all persons are welcome to join in.

10:00am to 1:00pm

Calling for volunteers! I'm running a Bus n'Bike Workshop with Go Wellington in Kilbirnie on Wednesday 9th October, and am looking for some cyclists to come along and take part. The workshop starts at 10 and runs for about 3 hours, including a light lunch. We take the bus drivers out for a short cycle ride, and then the cyclists get to drive a bus (off the highway).

Please come along and share your experiences - after all, how often are you given the chance to drive a bus?

Contact me at david.laing@sustained.co.nz to sign up. It will be great to have you along.
