Implementing the Urban Cycleways Programme: a webinar for cycling advocates

  • What is the UCP and what will it mean for your city?
  • How can the cycling community ensure that high quality cycleways get built?
  • How best to support your Council in implementing the cycleway programme?
  • How do we promote the benefits of cycleways?
  • How should we deal with bikelash & NIMBYism?

This is a webinar (web based seminar) for cycling advocates on how to ensure that the government and local body UCP funding for cycling projects is spent in a timely and effective manner. The aim is to allow advocates to share ideas on such topics as countering "bikelash", dealing constructively with councils and NZTA, etc.

We will have brief introductory presentations on background to the UCP and implementing cycling projects:

  • Elizabeth Claridge, NZTA Cycling Team
  • Councillor Andy Foster,  Chair of Wellington City Council's Transport and Urban Development Committee
  • Kathryn King, Auckland Transport's Walking and Cycling Manager
  • Barbara Cuthbert, Bike Auckland

Then the floor will be open to share our experiences.

The Webinar can be accessed from most Internet connected devices. You'll be able to hear other speakers, talk to them (though not all at once!), see any PowerPoint presentations we use, and post text messages. You'll need speakers, and a microphone if you want to talk. A headset microphone is ideal. You'll need Adobe Flash which that is pretty standard, but it could be worth checking you've got an up to date version. If you are using a tablet or smartphone you may need to download an app. It will be good idea to check your system beforehand to see if you need to update any software etc.

To ensure a free exchange of views, the webinar will NOT be recorded.
