“Watch your Waste” … what happens to your rubbish?

Go on, forget the 'silly season' racing around spending / buying ... have a much more memorable lead up to christmas - check out the rubbish dump and the Second Treasures shop ;-)

Ever wondered what happens to the rubbish in your yellow rubbish bag after it leaves your place? In an effort to become more conscious about what we throw out, and what goes on - we've organised the first in a series that you might call - 'Watch your Waste' ... this one is a guided tour of the Happy Valley rubbish dump (old fashioned description ... there’s lots more goes on than i knew about, and i want to find out more!) Next year we want to visit the sewerage treatment site at Moa Point, and also check out the recycling!

You cant’ just wander about the landfill site on your own, you have to be part of a tour. Charlie and I have organised a group tour for ReGen eco guys and gals, with communal transport (bus or van) to travel together from the central railway station leaving at 9.30 am, could have a pick up on the way if required (Cuba St or Brooklyn?) and arrive at the site for the guided tour starting at 10am.  End with a picnic at Owhiro Bay, return to train station by 1.30 pm.

Saturday 27th November

If you arent coming in the group transport, meet at the gates of the landfill at 9.45 for a 1 - 1 1/2 hour tour starting at 10 am

Location: WCC Southern Landfill
