Brief for the Minister of Transport Dec99

The Ministry of Transport has released its briefing to the incoming
government. This 20 page document summarises what the Ministry
considers key issues, as well as detailing the relationship between
the Minister and government agencies working on transport.

It is a pretty weak summary and points to flaws in the Ministry's
approach to management of transport (ie ignoring the need for
demand management and an integrated approach to land use and
transport planning ). Neither cycling nor public transport are
mentioned. Apparently, climate change is not a consideration in
the Ministry's work.

The briefing is available on our website as a PDF document or as a HTML document at: http://www.govt.nz/archives/mintransport/brief/brief99.php3

The new Minister needs to be made aware of NGO perspectives on
transport issues.
