The main aim of this strategy is to encourage
more people to walk both as a means of
getting around and for health and recreation.
This strategy sets out the broad level issues
relating to pedestrian needs within the City and
the key priorities of the Council in the area of
pedestrian provision. It is intended that this
strategy will lead toward a better overall
priority for pedestrian needs in the City, and
thus to a growth in walking both as a means of
transport and for health and recreation. This is
the first version of a pedestrian strategy for
Christchurch and as such contains a reasonable
level of background information, to enable users
to understand the issues.
