notes from RCA meeting 08 April 2010
KiaOra
Want to reiterate what we spoke about and the action tiems before they escape me completely. Please comment if i have forgotten or misrepresented something.
RCA co-chairs meeting: 8 April 2010 - linchtime at Wildlands office
Present: David C, Mark D, Willie S, Chris L and Mark 'Cabin" L
Points discussed (not necessarily in this order):
1) Chris reviewd the cycling for transport "Tipping Point" think tank he went to on Waiheke Island on 27/28 March - there has been a wiki set up to record and continue this discussion is can be seen at: http://tippingpointwaiheke.pbworks.com/
2) Willie caught us up with the East SIde School Project. ACTION: Willie is going to produce an electronic version of the annotated map from the last session, which he will pass to Mark D. Mark will then begin the process of consultation with RDC (initially Dennis WImp from Sigma).
3) The Draft RDC Cycle Strategy was reviewd. After spending some time going through the document, it was agreed to take the discussion ofline to prepare feedback to give to NIki. The improvement on the previous strategy was noted and NIki's efforts are commended - especially given her modest budget and scope. The strategy is, however, notably weak on aspiriational goals - "what would be the ideal cycling environment in Rotorua?" - and it was felt that we could give some input here. ACTION: Chris and David are to collate comments on the Draft Strategy and produce a feedback document from RCA. Others are encouraged to contribute also.
4) Cabin caught us up with the good progress that is being made with the "Rotorua in Gear" programme. Things are taking off with Sunset and Malfroy? schools picking up, so it looks like we might have opportunity to look at infrastructure improvements in other areas of town after we complete the EastSide programme. ACTION: Cabin to keep us upadated on progress with RiG and areas where we (RCA) can contribute.
5) Mark remined us the RDC Draft Annual Plan is soon (or already?) out for comment / submission. {I just checked the RDC websight and "Submissions need to be with Rotorua District Council by 4pm on 7 May 2010". You can see the drat annual plan at: http://www.rdc.govt.nz/YourCouncil/CouncilDocuments/AnnTYPs/Draft-Annual... ACTION: Mark D to coordinate RCA's submission.
6) A 'public meeting of cyclists' to discuss the Cycling Strategy and encourage others to get involved with the RDC annual plan process was suggested. This is a very good idea and a great way to get more folks involved in cycle advocacy!! Given the 7 May deadline for the annual plan submissions, the meeting should be next week or the week after ANZAC day (26-30 April) at the latest. ACTION: WE (that is all of us) need to chose a date, sort out a venue, and get our promotion / invitations organised ASAP. (note i am away from 22 to 27 April)
Thanks for reading! cheers, chris
