1.5m passing distance

Should CAN be advocating for a legal requirement that drivers allow at least 1.5m when passing bicycles - at the moment I think it's only advice in the Road Code.

CAN is currently promoting a

CAN is currently promoting a NZ Cycle Safety 9-Point Plan (http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/NZCycleSafety/), which includes:

"Run a national Share the Road promotional campaign telling motorists and cyclists how to co-exist safely on the roads."

Passing distance would be a key part of that campaign.

I would like to see a minimum passing distance in law.
