CAN's Vote Cycling Campaign for Election 2008

CAN's campaign to identify pro-cycling MPs and inform cycling voters was a great success. We surveyed almost all candidates for their stance on cycling and informed voters via brochures, press releases and these pages.

As a result, we have identified all pro-cycling MPs in Parliament - a huge asset for cycling advocates!

What we did up to the Election...

About 750,000 voters this Election are cyclists - 26% of the vote. Cyclists can be a major force for good!

So vote cycling!

CAN has been busy building information on parties and candidates and spreading the word to cyclists. The results of our work are provided below.

The results so far

CAN is reviewing parties and candidates by assessing official party policy and candidate profiles, and by polling candidates directly by email. Click on the links below to find out more about paries and candidates.

Your Election Resources

The resources below are for voting cyclists, candidates and parties, and media in the New Zealand General Election 2008. Each sheet gives you authoritative facts about cycling in New Zealand, with key reasons why you should support cycling. Each sheet also outlines common myths and shows how to counter them.

By using a resource, you help to give cycling its rightful place as one of the most popular, responsible, safe and fun ways to travel and relax in New Zealand.

You help improve the homes, workplaces and neighbourhoods of cyclists and non-cyclists alike by encouraging smarter decisions about health, transport and urban planning, to name a few key areas.

And when you vote for a pro-cycling candidate, you also vote on behalf of one other cyclist who isn't old enough to vote.

So vote cycling!
